The Littlest Ballerina

The little angel missed Twinkle Toes and wanted to start ballet again. She should’ve been in the 4:30 class, the class that was filled with kids her age and at her ability level. I work full-time downtown. There was no way I was going to make a 4:30 class.

Sometimes the world hates a working mother.

I enrolled her in the 5:30 class, even though we are late every week and I’m bolting out of work like a crazy woman on Tuesdays. She’s the littlest one, the youngest one, the one with the least balance and coordination. She tries so hard. I work with her during the week so she can get praise from her teacher, and she really has improved in the five weeks she’s gone.

Sometimes my heart breaks that my job made her the littlest ballerina.

And sometimes, I’m just proud she’s got the gumption to get in there with the others and try.
